under the light of the aurora borealis

By Bast

we padded into the night
leaving our heavy booted trail
into the wild forests of winter
where snow drifted heavy
like sleep in the eyes of children

came to a clearing
snow floating
heavenly cool dreams
of quiet grace
and beauty untouched

my hand presses into yours
i turn to you
our lips touch
a taste of warmth
of life
and all around us
in the icy night
the watercolor

in the silence
in the stillness
it is easy to believe
the sky blooms
for only us

the stars
are snowflakes
frozen in time
we, too
are frozen
in this moment
are hushed
not daring to break the spell
woven all around us

in a moment of benevolence
has given to us
a miracle

we hold each other close
and we marvel
