Reading, learning, discovering truths
Reminders reminding me once again
Ignorance rules our bendable rules
while people elsewhere are forced to defend.
What does the world do, as do I, safe and sound,
amidst our hopes and rallies for peace
in our fervent protests 'gainst wars and death
of foreign lands now on political lease?
"That's too bad" we whisper, shaking blank heads,
we say "if only" but what if we could?
From the ignorant to uncaring mass
What would we give for the pain they've withstood?
An eye for an eye? Perhaps tooth for tooth?
Or would you turn your other cheek instead?
Peace is an idol: an untouchable dream
War is our reality until hatred is dead.
And thinking, hearing, uncovering truths
Reminders remind me over again
My ignorance rules our bendable rules
and others take risks, give life, to defend.
