Stinging, sharp, and ever clear
Realization so surreal
A little laughter, just a drop
Pretending simply not to feel

Pausing, passing, eyes that plead
Windows to a soul in need
Cease the sorrow, make it stop
Ignoring hidden wounds that bleed

A callous world's insanity
Self-righteous in our vanity
Consumed with willing ignorance
Defending "my" humanity

An empty cup holds spirits close
While hatred loves our greed the most
So would you seek to view the truth
While lies become the honest host

Quickly, quiet, ever near
Darwin's theories bring us here
Survival of the fittest, see?
Know that wars will cut and clear

We are our own worst enemy
We are our closest friend
We seem bound to a destiny
To work towards our own species' end.
