it's outside...

you've watched me do unimaginable things without so much as a shudder
you've seen me make children cry
iv'e disowned friends without regret
iv'e seen many people die

you asked me where my real self is..
and to that same question i give the answer
it's outside my body watching me
destroy myself like cancer

i've watched myself and wondered if it's real
iv'e seen other hearts break because mine wouldn't beat for theres
iv'e watched myself beat a man senseless
and then walk away with no cares

you asked me where my soul is

it's outside

you asked me where my heart is

it's outside

watching my body
watching me float through life
watching but always to far away to really matter

you asked me

it's outside where i left it

well...keeping it out helps avoid vulnerability really. but is it worth it? hard one to answer. well written.

the detachement and sense of self-protected resentment comes through strong and clear. Nice write, thank you for sharing ~downstream~

this hurt to read because I know what it's like to be outside looking in ...on myself... like I have locked myself out of my own house. And there is no one to call that can let me back in. --I really like your writing. I'll have to read your others as well:)
