exhaustion settles into my bullet-riddled brain
cloaking my mind in bitterness
and self-reproach
till time stands at a still –
halted by the unseeming threads
that bind myself together

loathing melts me down
sleeplessness prowls again
till my sight is blackened
and the clouds of my doubt hang low

deep inside I feel it stir
the darkness and hate,
the acrid bile
that once burbled through my veins

toilworn and flagged, I fade
letting the heat of my darkness
infuse me with decay and ennui
