i am what i am
but i have also
been
what you are
and what you wanted
me to be.

except
you don't remember
me
for long enough
to ask me
to be anything.

i spent so long
faceless
seeking you
to paint my mask

and now i have you
only to wish
i could sink
back
into obscurity.

i have spent
so much time
trying
to seperate myself
from other people.

i have desperately
sought
be be special
unique
one of a kind.

i have invested
in making myself
worth love

better than the alternatives.

and yet
i lie awake
saddened
by our lack of unity
and connection.

i drift
perpetually between
being yours, mine
and nothing
in
between.

masterfully written 'better than the alternatives' quite an isolationesque quote created all alone...standing, breathing quietly. . .loved it
