(What If) Peace Broke Out
What if, sometime tomorrow,
In every nation, world throughout
In the hours between dusk and dawn,
Peace broke out... peace broke out?
No more war or old aggressions,
No more uncertain nuclear doubt,
For the world's a different place now
That peace broke out... peace broke out.
No more Serb and Croat slaughters,
Not a single Mid-East bout,
For the Tutsis and the Hutu too,
Peace broke out... peace broke out.
The Times, The Post, The Herald,
And all those other rags could tout
This daring headline:
Peace broke out... peace broke out.
Soldiers, sailors, the world all over,
Returning home like trout;
Upstream to stiller waters finding
Peace broke out... peace broke out.
Children laugh and play in streets now
Where snipers once ruled the night,
As forgotten friends and long lost families
Cross old borders to unite.
Yes, what if, sometime tomorrow,
In every nation, world throughout
In the hours between dusk and dawn,
Peace broke out... peace broke out?
