(What If) Peace Broke Out

What if, sometime tomorrow,
In every nation, world throughout
In the hours between dusk and dawn,
Peace broke out... peace broke out?

No more war or old aggressions,
No more uncertain nuclear doubt,
For the world's a different place now
That peace broke out... peace broke out.

No more Serb and Croat slaughters,
Not a single Mid-East bout,
For the Tutsis and the Hutu too,
Peace broke out... peace broke out.

The Times, The Post, The Herald,
And all those other rags could tout
This daring headline:
Peace broke out... peace broke out.

Soldiers, sailors, the world all over,
Returning home like trout;
Upstream to stiller waters finding
Peace broke out... peace broke out.

Children laugh and play in streets now
Where snipers once ruled the night,
As forgotten friends and long lost families
Cross old borders to unite.

Yes, what if, sometime tomorrow,
In every nation, world throughout
In the hours between dusk and dawn,
Peace broke out... peace broke out?

and hence, the reason there will never be peace...the people who love making war and love earning a living off war will never let it happen...

Beautiful thought. No words could add up to the image here. It'd be a wonderful thing. =)

its hard to convey optimistic or even idealistic poetry in a 'dark poetry' website where the general consenus is on negative themes or something akin more often....this was excellent to read and in the way you constructed it

This is one of the best things I've ever read! In some ways peace is good, but depending on what religion one is taught, peace will signal the end! But no matter all that, this was truly a great work of art! A Masterpiece in other words! \Billy/

The day peace breaks out is the day when humanity is not even here anymore. Peace is simply not possible for mankind. But good God, what a beautiful, mournful, hopeful vision you have portrayed... It must be instantly bookmarked.
