Once while walking along the beach
I saw on the horizon, a beautiful man
He called out to me
In distress, I thought, for it was a great distance
Between he and my shore
As I watched
He moved toward me with such grace and speed
He glided through the blue
Which seemed to delight in carrying him
I realized
How wonderful a creature I had discovered
A merman!
Rare and beautiful being
I admired him
His form was perfect
Divine
And in a trance
I wished I were water
I wished for him to live in me
A smile, no words
As one,
We ate of Terran fruits
Spent the days
Swimming warm sunlit pools
And at night, we gazed into the blackness of forever
Contemplating mysteries
For which we will never have solutions
At last
We stared into one another
Me above and he below
And in him I saw my own divinity
I too was a sacred being to be cherished
And my heart sank
To realize
That we could never spend too much time
In each other's world
Without risking lifelessness
