Inside this boy there lives a man
who knows not what is coming.
He only does what one boy can
to keep his world from crumbling.
The little boy stays locked away
behind his worried eyes.
No time for toys or child's play.
No time to wonder why.
He doesn't miss
the happiness
of which he never could posses.
He only fights
so others might
despair in life a little less.
This weight he bears
for many years.
Consumed by overwhelming fears.
He only gives
the life he lives
and learns to cry with silent tears.
The world he's known
has only shown
that in his fight he's all alone.
But still he tries
with sinking eyes
and so it goes until he's grown.
* * * * * *
Inside this man there lives a boy
who's struggling to be free.
The man who's will has been destroyed
no longer wants to be.
He looks within his weary heart
to find the child again.
The man, who's more than done his part,
is finally giving in.
"Come out and play"
the children say.
"It's such a lovely summer day.
For foolish fun
beneath the sun
we'll watch a lifetime waste away."
"It's time to be
completely free.
Forget responsibility."
"Come out and play"
the children say.
"The night is young and so are we."
He fast forgot
his troubled thoughts
and laughed for joy but worried not.
A careless child,
free and wild
until his life had come to naught.
* * * * * *
Inside this dying waste
there lives a lonely broken soul.
Forgotten by a world in which
he's never had control.
Lost inside the void he's tried
throughout his life to fill.
Swimming in emotions he's tried
all his life to kill.
Regretting life a little more
with every drawing breath,
he slowly closes vacant eyes
and welcomes waiting death.
