I cannot cease to regret
yet it does not describe me
the things that describe a person
Are often things they choose not to do

betimes I look back on those regrets
Are they shaped from good intentions
or wrought with scandalous intrigue?

Would I have enjoyed them if they hadn't been?
do I regret them because they were?

I spread little light when I try to tell myself
Who would I be today had I not?

I would be blissfully ignorant
and hate myself a whole lot less

My past is littered with regrets and too many times it affects my present just because I think of them. I read looking for insight and found my subconscious mind is in firm agreement with your conclusion :) sadly this seems to be the truth...
