I have been walking this world alone,
trying to stay on my feet
On my knees I crawl
and sometimes I fall
but I stand back up
because I am afraid to sleep
I open my eyes to a new day
hoping that it is better than yester'day
But my eyes only open to a new pain
Each face I see
is filled with a different kind of anger
some form of agony
We lose all our ability to think
hiding in the dark
hiding from the pains that fear brings
After all the wars
and after all the deaths
in the morning
we have learned nothing
Bigotry and misunderstandings rule our lives
the fear that we run from
keeps us upright
The sun pounds on our naked backs
and with eyes squinted to slits
we clench our fists
and march forth
search for something dear
We want all that we cannot have
We search for the reasons to live
but never find any
We are on a pilgrimage to our holy lands
We are on a crusade for hope and sanity
Because in our hearts
And in our minds
We know that we need more than this
I have searching the world high and low
Passing people by and ignoring my hopes
I have been searching all my life but never find
Everywhere I go, I find myself looking for an angel
Who will help protect the innocent,
protect the weak
Stolen away by the news,
the internet,
with things they cannot forget?
We search for what we want
We yearn for a reason to live
We represent a generation that needs people,
a generation that was turned on by a nation
We hold our hands and let love guide us,
let love be our salvation
We become what we need in each other,
we become our own angels.
