Urgency
Panic
The clock is cruel and derisive
So pertinacious
With its ticking
And tocking
Stop tocking, clock—I’m trying to sleep!
Doesn’t it understand?
Doesn’t it realize it’s going too fast for me?
“Everyone works at their own pace,” teachers say
If only time could be so sympathetic.
Time governs us.
It is kind and gentle to a select few.
Some challenge time
With plasticity and technology,
But time conquers
And time derides.
