For 200 years
I have withstood
the sands
of time

In the beginning
lit with oil and flame

A silent sentinel
guiding the lost
to safety

The structure below
once housed
families

They cared for me
Kept the light burning

I watched over them
the chidren playing
on the beach

In time they grew up
and became my guardians

Then came technology
the house now empty
and dilapidaded

My electric eye
now controlled by
machines

I am obsolete
they say

The genreations
of humans i watched over
are but
mere memoriies

Is this what is
 to become of
the world today

I want no part of it
snuff me out

put me to pasture
With the images
of those who once
cared for me

Throw the switch
out of the blue
and into the

BLACK
