You sit scraping away
At years of gathered hurt,
Releasing the pestilent pain
From beneath the buried dirt.
Cradling the myriad pieces
Of your disintegrating soul,
Shackled hands reach out –
Pleading to make you whole
Broken will lurks within
Shadows of a defeated gaze,
As plague ridden tears set
The putrid wound ablaze.
And I watch your fall
Allured and bound awhile,
Blinded by the shards
Of your fractured smile.
