You've gotta be creative if you want to stay young
I know that love was never what you wanted
Still adrift after another part-time job
I know you never wanted to settle for less than you were

So, okay, if you come back
With the means and the money
And the sights you see on the 303 are 404
Your new selective memory
Do you have to reconcile
Every thing you need to know
With everything you're about to know
And everything you shouldn't know
Well, maybe there's a market for the shit that you already know
Everything you couldn't show
And nothing that I'd want to know

It's okay if you change your mind
If your mind's set, then in this mindset
I don't know what you think that you can come home to
Certainly not the parking lot
Never this old house until it's finally new

In your ex-girlfriend's basement there probably was a storm
Don't worry, it didn't wreck the couch, she doesn't live there anymore
Your stormy cheapness that she came along with was never so abused
But when I was the one to do all the talking, I never felt so used
Your sister's gone, the cat walked away
Your father's clean but you can't stay
There ain't no backup, there's no second shot
Forget everything now and then weigh what you've got
When you're back in town, you can just stay the same
I'll fold out the couch, you'll have somewhere to stay
can't keep track of everything here anyway
i'll see if there's something to track while you're away

You've gotta be creative if you want to stay young
I don't know if you'll end where you wanted
I'll get you a room if you figure to pay
Stop to believe you're less than all you can be
