All the lights in my hallway are off
They're controlled by too many switches
Each one opposing at least eleven others
And only four let you fade
Recessed and track, overridden floor
Decorative and permanent, outside the door
A chandelier with five working bulbs
That I could never split quite correctly
There could be logic but it's all up to guess
There's a heavy lack of fluorescence
About better goals, which lights are ignored
It goes dark when I all push them down
At least there's the quick disco show
We never give up, we're never embarrassed
We keep all that to ourselves
We keep to ourselves and we ignore the others
We know that was never the point
And everyone's trendy for not being so
So trendy that you couldn't bear
And who takes out time to wonder when it all became the same
Devotee and couldn't ever care
They divvy up the world into black and grey
And broadcast to the rest what they meant
And you lost all artistry when some colloquiualism
Was stolen my the president
And everyone's fine with this cycle of forgiving
And maybe the point has been made
But there's never been a better time to ask for permission
Than when it's two hundred degrees in the shade
We never give up, we're never embarrassed
We keep all that to ourselves
We keep to ourselves and we ignore the others
We know that was never the point
We never break ties, we keep ourselves committed
And we brace ourselves for apathy
We're struggling to find meaning in everyone who doesn't matter
We're struggling to turn off the light
We never give up, we're never embarrassed
We keep all that to ourselves
We keep to ourselves and we ignore the others
We know that wasn never the point
We keep to ourselves to a weekend or more
We hide ourselves deep in the basement
And when that's the only place we escape the streetlights
We've at least got someplace to go
We can at least turn off the lights
We can turn off the lights after all
We can turn off the lights after all
