After a while, you get exhausted with every moment about to mean something
A couple broken breakthroughs and you don't really care what it means
The seventh time through, you're tired of her narrows
The spines and the arrows of where Eros done fucked up
You have to wonder to relax
Sunday morning rests as an image, the rest lay outside a week
She never thought that it would have been three years
And if everybody has to grow up, I won't think about the changes
Because looking back has such a negative stigma
No one else thinks I care
I thought it was clever
What you did with their initials
Made a little joke that was waiting all their lives
At least three people understand
The ways we do relate
And it's those weird things that no one ever mentions
Turn signals never synchronize
Every other car is hate
The up clicks, down clicks never match an on and off cycle
There's no reason to check the time
When I let you drive
There's careful ambiguity
The other cars brush you and me aside,
I never promised to give you a ride
But there you were when I was ready
I thought it was clever
How you rhymed their names together
But if you never heard of either, it wouldn't work
At least three people understand
But they never build on each other
Think of the scientific theories that never were
Somebody important died
There was a funeral outside
I watched from my apartment on the second floor
The casket rolled down the street
It all was rife with irony
It would be funny if I weren't wrong
Someone important was born
But we would never know it, for
They were put into the wrong hands at birth
And now some undivine plan
Has got some influential man
Who's going to die alone, having worked in information tech.
Someone important to me
Was rearranged in groups of three
And now the body's cubed in a literal way
The world told us it's wrong
But I could tell you what's wrong
It's that the poetry isn't quite all-American
I guess I was just never all-American
I promised you that I'd never go back there again
I thought it was clever
When you taught me about naivety
And how your style of teaching demonstrated the concept
At least three people understand
Why I'd tell you something like that
But I'm starting to have my doubts about the first time
Growing up is pretty easy
If you ignore it as it happens
