When I take my contacts out at the end of the day
I see another world, its one I normally don’t see as
I am about to go to bed when this habitual thing takes place
But for some reason today I have taken them out early and I see
Those vain trappings of mine, a name blurred unreadable,
Small metal objects, blobs that are but cherry wood furniture
Look nothing more than like mere blocks,
My screen before, a myriad of crumbled symbols looking as if
They were some graded essay for my U.S. history class careless
Tossed aside in a backpack, crushed.
The words now seem to be chasing invisible letters that I now see
Like chasing its own tail, the cursor in word just a odd shape.
The light play off the walls from a simple five foot lamp seem new and strange
Like dark figures painted on a burgundy wall.
I feel neither at home or at peace
I strange man stands behind me, a suit of armor built by a distant man.
My boots look nothing like what they are.
This is my alien world.
