I remember you
Through the haze of a summer night
Cold on a table
Which should never have been your last

I remember you
With my sixteen year old hands
Lips slightly parted with a tongue that could not whisper
We shared that
Inability to speak
But my heart still beat
When in moments your own rested with cinders
Expelling fumes
Exhaust of a burnt-out car that was your life
Fumes imitating tendrils caressing mine

I wonder: did you realize we made love?
You filled me,
Caressed me,
Made me ill inside.
Artificial conception; this was mourning sickness
For the one I never knew in time
To have lost.

You were the first time
I saw death in its naked purity
Through the haze of a summer night
Cold on a table
Which should never have been your last

I remember you
Made me ill inside
