Then there's this play called life
You audition
The sign flashes applause
You're deserving of the part.
The beautiful bride-
She swaggers on stage
Confidence like you never had
And she is loved.
She is loved.
But you're not on the roster
Never cast- just cast away
They pull the rug from under you
And your insecurities come tumbling down.
Down with you.
Then there is sleep.
No lights
Like death- in darkness you wait
With your eyes open
For some sort of sign.
A light.
Glitter.
An Applause sign where no applause is due.
Us actors
We're always chasing safety.
