Blinking through the fading glass,
The sun is just another fairy tale, just another bullshit happy ending.
There is no prince, it's all a lie.
Why build our hopes just to leave us just as shattered as you?
When the veils were lifted and the shadows fell, did you break?
Did you cry and scream at your god to save you,
Only to realize it was far too late to save yourself?
And when you broke,
When you finally accepted your life and all its failings,
How could you reset the stage?
Just waiting to draw us in and teach us how to dream,
Waiting for the dream to shatter so you could walk away
And leave us to be broken down
JUST
LIKE
YOU.
It's only fair.

Blinking through the hazy glass,
We create our own fairy tales but we always come crashing back down.
A twisting stream of smoke teases,
Caresses my reflection.
If a pill can make me smile,
And a friend can make me kill,
Then what's the point of fighting for friendship
When you can be high enough not to notice that no one cares.
Happiness can now be bought for the low, low price of 30 dollars a bag.
Smoking the only friend you care to have.
Telling reality to screw itself so you can finally have a happy ending,
At least in your mind.
Fun house mirrors always made me something better…
The girl I saw had so much life sparking from behind her eyes,
Only to light my face and chase away the shadows from eyes I knew were dead.
Now, I'm staring blankly at a girl that I don't seem to know.
I look into her eyes and realize I've killed her too.
Now, I'm reaching to touch her,
To shake her and bring her back to life,
To bring back that smile full of light.
Somehow I know I have the power to open her eyes and make her see a world
Where fairy tales come true and everyone can find a happy ending.
She's reaching for my hand now,
Yearning to be free of the shadows,
To dance in the sunbeams with her very own prince charming.
So close, all I need to do is grab her hand and not let go,
Then everything will be okay.
Sobbing, my fists beat the sober reality of glass.
Seeing her weep because she knows I can never reach her,
And she'll never be free.

Blinking through the blood-stained glass,
Praying for concrete reality or immortal fantasy,
Begging one world to consume me.
Are all the echoes of my screams unheard?
Can I honestly walk the halls, false smiles and hellos,
With none the wiser?
Is my smile so well manufactured that it can shine so bright
And cast shadows on these scars?
Is everyone else so blind that all they can see is the light?
Or have they simply died as well?
Would I rather have them care and try to fix me?
Walking alone in the hours before dawn,
With questions no one can answer but me,
Praying for a savior I don't even have the strength to be.

Blinking through the broken glass,
Watch the fragments fall and shatter,
Leaving nothing but glittering dust.
A breeze stirs, ripping faded photographs from their shrines,
Raping my memories and leaving me with nothing.
Lift my head from off the floor, shaking and trembling;
The after-effects of existence in chemical fantasy,
Numbing my words and breaking my heart.
A glimpse at the sky, the story came true!
New and bright, the sun mocks my lack of faith,
Taunting my distrust, blinding my sight.
For the first time in days I rise to my feet.
Take a moment and absorb the new day, let it fill me with new hope.
A fairy tale sky.

Blinking at the hopeful sun,
I drape the window in shades of black,
And prepare to break myself again.
