the clouds drifted on in their contentment
and standing on this razor's edge
i faced the night
haven
sanctuary
blissful tranquility

my face lifted for a kiss from the moon
as she parted the night and smiled upon me
eyes slowly closing as the breath of winter
envelopes me in its stinging caress
a form shivering in the darkness
shadow reaching for comfort

this season slowly seeps into me
i can feel it infuse me
sharp as needles
penetrating into my flesh
wrapping my bones
in the knowledge of life
sending my blood racing
to keep itself sane

it's so intense and this is winter
every whispered prayer and acknowledgement
torn from my lips with an icy kiss
my lungs feel as if they'll burst
from the shards of ice hidden in this oxygen
yet again i draw in deeply
reveling in the invading blades

this is but a slice of true reality
beauty and pain mixed with silence so loud
touching upon a wonder that few know exist
warmth and brightness may seem decadent
but bring at times a bitter note of sloth
that slips one into a comatose haze
this is gently grasping the sword edge
feeling the blood slide cold upon the skin

within this solitude a question floats the wind
why stand frozen beneath this winter's moon
.
i'm dying just a little bit
to remember how to live

Oh boy, I haven't read anything this amazing in a very long time. Stunning imagery. "sending my blood racing to keep itself sane" that was a beautiful line. But the last lines sold me on this. ::favorites::
