the sky broke and cried
in wracking spasms
all of the pain i've let loose
up to these days
and threw it back down
in frightening fury
as if it couldn't handle
the weight i released
or rather it refused
to hold any more
of the sorrow i so
carefully folded and packaged
wishing it away forever
i could swear with every drop
the voice of some celestial deity
was woven into the lightning
begging me with scarred lips
to keep my breaking to myself
as every last ray of hope
faded fast within the downpour
and so it came to pass
that even the stars that once hung bright
turned their faces and hid trembling
unable to bear even my most quiet sigh
leaving me to surrender desolate
powerless to endure their withdrawal
i sank beneath the rising waves
to expire in recycled faithless tears
