Note: This isn't "Dark", so if that's what you're here for, this is your chance to leave... Still here? Okay. I wrote this for my mom out of respect for years of hard work and raising three kids by herself. I'm sure being a mother is one of the most difficult yet rewarding of tasks, so this is my appreciation.
She thought I never heard the words
she used to always say
Like maybe I would brush them off
as I left the house each day
But I always kept them in my mind,
my back pocket or inside
For a time when I would need them
and she wasn't by my side
In the darkness they would guide me
and in the light I would remember
my past and where I came from
and how she raised me to know better
I honor her everyday
in my decision to work hard
Through not taking the easy way
and staying true at heart
She always made me smile
even when she would feel sad
She put me first when I needed her
and when the world made me feel bad
Though I'm grown up and have less free time
she does it still today
I just wanted to show my love
Mom, this is my thanks
