The river's rolling steady,
but I'm not in the river yet.
I'm on the path beside it,
still my face is getting wet.
The water is my temptation,
danger awaits at every bend.
Can I just keep on walking,
on this path that never ends?
Should I jump into the river,
let current take me where it may?
Or bruise my heels on jagged stones,
because this path has gone astray?
The earth once soft and sandy,
has become a rocky road,
and the waters edge gets closer,
with every step I go.
Now I've jumped into the water,
floating down a caressing stream.
Passing by the trials I'd conquered,
passing by what made me dream.
I've washed up on the banks again.
I'm at the beginning of the walk,
The river took be backwards,
now this time I'll have to crawl.
This time I'll travel slowly,
with appreciation for the stones.
And knowing what's ahead of me,
I'll eventually make it home.
