and i thought i remembered
that he said unto them
while they broke bread together
something akin to
take of this, it is my flesh
drink of this, it is my blood
without it there is no life in you

and the drollness of it all
struck me because i too share
my flesh,
my blood,
my bread and
my drink
with a life that grows within me
and refusing these rations of soul and body
was never really a choice
for any of us
