i.
two organs rule this form
a dichotic existence
resonating at different frequencies
sustain the polarity of my soul
though united in purpose
and maintained by the same system
of valves and synapses
they differ in all other respects
one seeks warmth
while the other names it
where one beats to preserve existence
the other endures to preserve cadence
one recognizes substance
and the other gives substantial recognition
like the difference between
feeling and knowing
experience and naivete
maturity and age
money and power
it is this subtle distinction that connects
falling for the eyes
and that which they perceive
ii. the heart
a cardiac processes propels
the blood to
rhythmic
vascular
motion,
a macrobiotic energy fed by random rations
this hub commands warmth
gleaning sustenance from scores of sources
the variable diet- -
though palatable pollutant provisions are plentiful,
passion's core samples
personal pleasures,
one by one
avoiding arrest
with critical commitment
it compels
iii. the mind
echoing the pulses of
riotous horses galloping across night's plane
not even a master wrangler would ever venture to map.
how does one begin to reign over untamed dreams - -
of which it has simultaneous control and lack thereof ?
eternally bound within the borders of the
boundless internal macrocosm of the self
yearning for the path to elsewhere,
and a back like Atlas'
upon which to carry my burdens,
an equal, in the company of whom i might hold
intelligent conference with regard to direction and purpose
unable to break it's will
the mind continues feeding with parasitic frenzy
upon hope's poisonous thoughts - -
paralyzed by visions -
these eyes can not see
beyond the equinoctial horizon
towards which the wild equine run
my soul called home
