one who knows me as well as i can ever be known
would cackle in cadence with me at
a description of the moment our first meeting
with, ‘i knew it when our eyes met’
but, i blinked
and upon reopening
my earthy brown eyes
i became aware of yours
so blue
like twin oceans
colliding with the shores of my soul
and now
i want to lie beneath
that body of water
and with a heat
that rivals mother earth’s
create a new world
just for us
that is as true and pure
as the meaning
we’d find in our life together

and no piece of me
is capable of deceiving you
not through words
not with flesh
and for my part
never in my natural life
will you suffer even a
scratch upon your heart
by my hand
because i see in you all the
familiarity and faithfulness
of trusted friends and family
truth be known,
anything else is simply unnatural
