Solid walls of air enclose
a room occupied by the shadow girls
and I of ethereal flesh and bone
cannot gain the lighted portal
physical presence belies a spirit
hiding in a corner shamed
waiting for any of the shadow girls
to reach out and
at the same time repulsing
a touch of friendship
cowering in cloak of cowardice
dare not reach out myself
though in secret this is my desire
to be like the others
and stand with the shadow girls
instead I stand behind walls
and mask desire
and I will wipe away your tears
my shoulder is yours to cry on
my arms can hold you and gladly will
but if you dare to do the same
you meet my walls
and I am ashamed of what you see through the cracks
do not come in! do not come in!
I am not deserving of the glance
of a shadow girl
instead let me love you unrequited
allow me to comfort you
ease your pain and give you peace
for just a moment
allow me...
love is mine to give but not to have
in this is my disgrace
and I must earn each touch of comfort
or pay the price for each embrace
and the price of any given me
is more than I can bear
