I see a young woman standing before me,
She could easily pass as my twin,
Yet I gaze at her, wondering...
She steps closer and I peer into her eyes.
I find what I'm looking for,
Right there underneath the surface.
The pain that hides behind laughter,
Bruises covered by perfectly pale skin,
And a frown that only reflects a smile.
She reaches up to catch a tear.
My hand goes up to my own cheek.
The tear glistens with a pureness,
Denying all the woman holds inside.
We mouth silent words to each other,
Each saying "You hurt so much,"
While the other shakes her head in denial.
I look into her scarred soul again.
I shudder, looking away.
So alike are we, that it is frightening.
We turn away at the same moment,
Like reflections of each other.
I walk away from the mirror...
