I step back into the shadows,
As you study my face.
Can you really see the pain of
Memories that I can't erase?
I wear it on my face,
This fake, happy smile.
Let me be alone,
So I can frown for a while.
Yet you don't walk away,
You still stand there and stare.
Then you hold out your hands,
Are you pretending to care?
My knees slowly buckle,
As I break down and cry.
You look at me puzzled,
Then kneel beside me and sigh.
Picked me up so gently,
Carried me over to the bed.
Curled up at your side I sleep,
On your shoulder I rested my head.
I awake in the morning,
Feeling strong and refreshed.
I look over to see you next to me,
And I know I have truly been blessed.
