“the sun has fallen from the sky thousands of times, since last I dreamed this place…”

Lights and shadow cover
The sky, and I’m hovering,
Without motion, the breaths I
Take propel my thoughts and me
Down.

There is a castle shrouded in fogs,
Gray rain leaves darkened prints
On the stone, silent drumbeats to the chorus of music that echoes
Off of glistening flagstones.

These stones sing.
And while the only colors are
The gray mist and fog,
Grayer stones, and black
Where a droplet has struck,
There is a radiance from the
Music.

I walk in and wonder
What mortal could build a place such as this? Who
Lit these torches to light my way?
Suddenly,
The chorus doubles, and I feel the
Tremble in my breast.

And sprayed out below me,
I’ve reached a rampart or balcony,
Is a misten tapestry, like
A food coloring artist dyed
Dough and was still kneading…

And while I can’t see those hands, I do see griffons and
Dragons, imps and flying
Goblins, their smiles are echoes
Of the castle’s gargoyles,
Rapturous delight abounds,
And I find myself soaring!

Higher and Higher I circle,
Caper, and dance with my friends,
The chorus thunders on, setting pace and
Tone.

I see her.
Waiting, aloft of it all,
She’s astride a shimmering unicorn
With an iridescent ruby horn.

I meet her patient eyes,
And with the hopes of the smoke,
And the choirs of stone I circle
Further than all the others,
Transcendence covers my skin, and
I grasp her hands, leading me to
Happiness, joy, and those things which in dreams are
Possible.
