Work in progress...
She sat in the dark corner of the room, rocking. She held her knees tightly as her vision went blurry from all of the tears. Wide eyed, looking upon the space in front of her, she couldn’t believe what was there. The blood stained shirt and hands made her think she was at fault. But how was that possible? She didn’t remember a thing.
“No, no...I’m sorry...” she croaked out in whispers, still rocking. Her gaze stopped on the bulging eyes of the hanging corpse closest to the door. She knew he was dead, but his eyes still cried out “help!” She watched the other swinging shadow that reeked of urine and feces. After a few moments of deep breaths she began to wonder why all of the bodies were naked while she was clothed. She also wondered who did the peculiar writings on the wall.
She stood up slowly and stepped over three of the decaying corpses. She wanted a closer look at the message. Maybe it was for her. She knew the closer she got it had been written in blood. She looked down at her red hands, then back up.
“I didn’t do this,” she said in a whisper. “I didn’t, I didn’t do this,” gradually getting louder until it was a full on scream, “I DIDN’T DO THIS! DO YOU HEAR ME, YOU BASTARD!? I DIDN’T DO...it” she broke off with sobbing, pounding her fists against the wall for what seemed to be eternity.
Growing weaker, she picked up the only candle in the room and put it out with her fingers. She dropped to the floor, climbing over the others in the room, gradually back to the corner. She closed her eyes, drew in her knees, and hoped she would join the rest.
