of trepidation
feeling only the bitter
sting of repentance
prodding at every
inch of my frosty corpse
chapped lips sealed shut

eyes piercing and gaping
awake to take in
the bleakness that passes

roses you offered
with a stench of
deceit and betrayal
each like the last
arrow through my soul
tearing away what I built
devouring what we created
how do you live with
empty, blood stained hands
clenched so tightly
around the throat you kissed
