Alice on prom night

~ Anth ~

She was stood in the rain
holding out her wrist
doubting that the clouds
would keep their promise.

The charms on her bracelet
were all characters from
a Lewis Carroll novel;
but could find no solace

covering up her scars.
They shivered slightly..
felt the droplets first;
as big as Alice's tears.

With a blade she always kept
wrapped in a velvet sash;
she sent them clattering
into the soft flesh of the grass.

The rain was roses painted red
as it pirouetted from her wrist
though she was twirling in the rain
thankful to exist.

And like dreams spilled from the head
they sank into the mud
that would harden over their eyes
the way childhood
sudden
dies.
