i want everyone to love me
i want them to throw fistfulls of rose pedals
at me from off of the balconies of the projects
as i walk to get my morning cup of doughnut shop coffee
i want to be the center of every woman's universe
they'll all be pleased to stand behind me
and applaud and encourage
licking their lips hardly able to wait to blow me
after my interview with the man from the television
who can't help but like me
a sycophant
despite his cynical journalist's nature
and old men listening to the radio under the
eaves of screened in porches
will nod their heads gravely in assent
to my opinions traveling all over the air
and my picture will be on dust jackets
and my picture will be on trading cards
and my picture will be on billboards
representing the american dream
