a friend once gave me a couple marbles
told me it was important not to lose them
one was all white, newish and smooth
rather shiny in the sun
the other, an old chipped piece of deep purple glass
opaque and barely round
i'm thinking about this in the high desert in early spring
where the sharp wind turns the slanted sun's beams into ice-cream

in the high air it's hard to catch your breath
snow at the feet of sujaros
and wide open skies

wide open skies

Every time I read the final line of this poem I get a chill; every time! Just read it again. Another chill. See. And again. Just creepy. Cool. But creepy.

I live in the desert....nothing like desert when the sun rises or in early spring..sun shines so bright but its still not hot....i liked the way you jumped from one sub to something completly diff and it worked...

Fish, this is wonderful. The old chipped purple one would have been my favourite, and I love the line "where the sharp wind turns the slanted sun's beams into ice-cream". Just wonderful. FF
