Coffindust

  The Archaeological
Journal, "controversial
views" of this "dig" plagued
with tragedy, mishaps filled the news
and bold hieroglyphics repeating a curse
sickness, pestilence, perhaps something worse.
"Quite peculiar, Amazing, Completely Unknown"
scientific reflection, observing the tomb, some spectacled
professors gaping in awe, this strange mausoleum without any
doors. "We'd best heed the warning and cover it up", but these
protests of reason, just couldn't cut through the stone of majority, in spite
of the curse .. sickness, pestilence, perhaps something worse. Warning glyphs
cover the coffin .. pleading: "don't break the seal", all ignored by these moderns in
their ignorant zeal, then with pick-axe, shovel and self-righteous pride they broke open the
coffin and stared deep inside. "Just dust"........ disappointment , and a sneeze on the breeze,
bacteria, viruses, ancient deadly disease, now released from their slumber, unleashed like a curse
.............. sickness ........................ pestilence .......... perhaps something worse ......

I wonder if...someday...someone will dig my coffin up and pop it open to stare at my bones. They'll say, "And here is a wonderful specimen from the last century, look at how well her hair is preserved."

This kind of remonds me of a story I read about a plague chamber, where they put all the dead nodies back in the days of the bubonic plague, being opened in modern day Europe. Scary to consider...

Brilliance..the beauty is subtle . . the disturbance of creeping spirit-like flowers or something, ill-defined images, brutalities of the mind. I can draw so much from this. Wonderfully written.

I like the 'shape' of this poem. It reminds me of an empty shoe. Or a coffin lid. Or just an empty coffin. Very cool.
