The telecommunications boom of the early 21st century has spawned a number of US corporate communication giants each bent on bringing the third world countries into the "electronic age"
One of the most successful mergers, financially at least, was that of Microsoft Robotics and John Deere Tractor. Their firm, Micro-Deere, has produced the first solar-powered, satellite controlled telecommunications robot: the MD 827.
Hovering approximately six inches above the ground (by incorporating the new GyRo Anti-Grav-Thruster) developed by MS, this robot cuts its own path through vegetation with massive tungsten blades. A solar-charged, triple quad JD332, external combustion engine built (by John Deere) explicitly for this project, provides the horsepower. One of MD 827's massive arms drills holes for telecommunication poles; the other appendage trenches the ground (in preparation) for laying fiber optic cable.
There where a few problems at first, as with most MS applications, and several thousand people in poor impoverished third world countries were brutally annihilated by alpha machines gone wild.
However, after several dozen “patches”, the robots preformed to expectations, crashing with regularity, but rarely going on a killing spree.
Gill Bates, (President of the newly formed MD cooperation) issued a public apology for the unfortunate loss of life, and offered free Internet service to “Any family that lost a loved one.”
He went on to state that the MD 827 has helped the Mico-Deere Corporation turn a “nice” profit for investors both in the first and second quarter.
