She appears so happy
in the photograph.
Smiling,
standing so straight and proud.
But her eyes,
her eyes tell another story.
Her eyes,
sunken back,
darkened,
pained,
tell the truth.
Suddenly her demeanor
seems to morph,
into that reflecting her true emotion.
She doesn't appear so happy,
now,
in the photograph.
But she smiles on,
that dark, deciving smile.
And no one looks close enough,
to see,
sadness reflected.

Sadness reflected... it's interesting to think of photographs as a delayed mirror... a historical reflection of yourself...
