Barren,
as a freshly frozen lake,
you're no longer in my heart.

Abandoned,
like the puppy that became a dog too soon,
you're no longer in my life.

Changing,
like the seasons of this great earth,
you're no longer on my mind.

Regenerate,
like spring brings the world back to life,
you're no longer my virus.

This seems like an old style betrothed with post-modern pessimism...it creates something slightly jarring, but by no means no less interesting and freshly hewn from suffering
