Go ahead.
Pin up your newspaper clippings.
Don't notice my angst,
don't feel my sorrow crying out for you.

Go ahead.
Tack down those odd shapes,
things you want to remember,
things you're proud of.

Go ahead.
Read the captions and the articles.
Don't read my pain,
revealing itself to you like your stupid newspaper.

Go ahead.
Pin my accomplishments up,
to grow old and yellow and brittle,
like our relationship.

You're always just one day behind.
You're pinning up yesterday's news,
when you should be there with me,
as I make tomorrow's.

But go ahead Dad,
pin up your newspaper clippings.
We both know,
it's the only way you'll remember.
