I see now,
looking back,
you were never so great.
I looked up to you,
loved you,
admired you.
You were my hero.

But I see now,
looking back,
you were never so strong.
Anyone can hold a four year old,
anyone can change a tire,
anyone can run away.
You were what a man should be.

But I see now,
looking back,
you were never so brave.
Even I can stand to be alone,
even I can yell and scream,
even I can make it on my own.
You were my great protector.

But I see now,
looking back,
you were never so great,
even though I thought you a hero.
