And he sighed...
"I've never seen you so happy...
With that light in your eyes
The lightness of heart...
Congratulations, he must be great."
He smiled and just looked away
If only he knew the extent
Of the wonder...
The hold he's got on me
I wish I could calculate
The extent of magnificence
I've seen in the last few days...

So there we stood...
Amidst the fallen leaves
I thought of all the times
I smiled with him...
My hand wrapped gently inside of his
Animation in his eyes
Smile spread across his lips
Hand waving wildly in excitement
At the story he tells
Walking the streets of Manhattan
People all around
I smile now looking back...

"You made me smile once too, Nathan
You once put the stars in my sky
Lit this light in my eyes
and the fire in my heart"
Just then he looked away
A tear ran down his cheek
A look of regret in his eye
"It hurts to let go
I'm so sorry.."
He stood to leave
"I'll see you around"
Just like that we was gone

I like this one, captures innocence and sadness with no bitterness, just regret, which preserves the innocent feel. So far, this really works - look forward to seeing how you choose to finalize it. Ciao, T/S

it's very sad... yet enlightening knowing we can move on and not die... well completely inside.

The title drew me in with its vauge simplicity. Then they peice blew me away line after line. I think you have a good start here. Can't wait to read when it's finished
