I remember the day
Warm, sunny
The flowers were starting to bloom
Nobody calls this early
Why is the phone ringing?
The burnt French toast and snowy white TV
Mom crying in the next room
(birthday party at 2)
Still the buzzing in my head
Why did the phone ring?
The distance
A blip on the screen
Sharp flying V's ever getting smaller
Metallic in origin
The migraine won't go away
Final gasps taken to grasp one's hand
Green and white figures lurking around
Witnessing a short life
Slip of consciousness,
The blinds now drawn to exclude light
My mother's tears have slowed to a drizzle
Why is the phone off the hook?
I hear but one word
