Was a spent coil of silvered metal
Caught the sun and held it in its winding body
I found while walking through a dream.
I served me this simple thing.
I had been hoping well on for years to find
Any article possessing god’s bright and gracious beam.
In my sweated hand I kept it
And gave my feet to the land and dunes and shore
Where I walked toward eternity and Andromeda’s distant gleam.
I came across a sea of silence
And it shushed me as I strode
My footsteps rung a noisy violence
In this ocean’s calm abode
Then woke me again to bells
On a dune of sand in the night
With scent of Myrrh in unvisited nose
And dancers by dimmest firelight
Up was I to closer see
Still in shadows as I dare
The nature of this revelry
I’d heard upon the air
Lonely limbs of mine
Must they to move against my every will
Be it! Adorn my dullness with wine
Give me a string, some wood, and a thrill!
So spent me the night in beauteous joy
Under pale Luna and her bosom bright
With those of a more mysterious nation
Than where I shall return tonight.
I pray god visit me those moments again
Call a wind from the desert dust
Spike the air with Myrrh and then
With drink and music, for life, make me to lust!
