Flipping through
Fourteen hours of blue moon dreams
And the static of the tv screen
Shadows on the ceiling
And faces pasted to the walls
I wonder if I slept through the days
When I had it all
Tripping past pieces of midnight light
Mesmerized by the lake tonight
Silvery slipping of mercury waves
Time seems endless
But the guy on the corner said these are the days
With his stolen hotel bible and broken down blue eyes
I'm too tired, but otherwise
I might just listen to him lie . .

Flipping through hours
Dimming in the shadow of an apologetic sun
Casting my eyes to the east, and I figure
You know that you've won
A blanket 18 years ago
Fireworks exploding, and a kid who didn't know

And I still wonder if I dreamed my way
Through smoky bonfire days
Marshmallows and horseback rides
Seems nice
But I know the tricks
Of memory lane

Maybe these days
Are the ones where I have it all
But you know, I'd still rather sleep
Yeah, I'd just rather sleep through it all . . .

I return to this poem and realize now that my dreams remain mired on memory lane but my reality keeps me moving forward... I think my heart is locked in the past.

The story you tell is just as heartbreaking and dark as the words you chose to describe it! Pure Emotional Poetry!

The is a magnificent portrayal of how we forget to seize the day. Absolutely brilliant wordplay and wonderful images. I may not have caught everything in the poem, but I really struck close to home.

this is really sad... i wonder as well if i slept through the fantasy life my parents say i live... and i wonder if i'd rather sleep til things are sorted.. but still... even if it hurts... i'd rather stay awake... take the pain with the pleasure.

Well...that completely hit on how I'm feeling right now. Remembering how things use to be. Everything seemed better then though I guess it wasn't.
