Dust has fallen,
Like a blanket pulled to rest
Upon a face in death.
A silent settling
That says to all, move on;
The life that was here has gone.
Even the light
Of a fiery sun,
Hides and shies away
At the motes of something more
Than simply time decayed.

A stilled-breath scene, a whispered tale.
A "Once upon another life",
A beauty death has paled.

And like a curtain,
Bequeathing to a watcher's heart
The actor's final bow;
What has been is living now,
In no more than memory.
Something lost;
A thing that was,
And again shall never be.

The first stanza was captivating and thought provoking. I've never read dust described so perfectly. Makes me think of a dusty ghost town that's had all of the life sucked out of it.

I read it over again and the images keep coming to mind, my first comment was not even close to giving this justice.

Really great poem. I just jumped forward about 5 months in your writing and I can see a huge difference. I love the second stanza, the whole poem has a very forboding tone, I love it!

You are breath taking... this touched me so deep and smoothly. I read it first, and perceived a death the second time I took an old memory away from the meaning...the third the death of an old memory. Each different thread holds the heart on a platter of

Memories are all we have. It's interesting to think that today may be an old fairy tale some day. Interesting write!
