The glare of the sun is almost too bright
As I spread my arms and prepare to take flight
Straining ever upward praying with all my might
To feel the wind converge on me.

And lift me up into the heights
Waiting to welcome me to the beautiful sight
Where the sea of blue turns to brilliant white
And the sun has no hold.

Wanting with every part of my being
To have that perfect exquisite feeling
Of weightless, stringless, boundless, freeing
That comes from giving up gravity.

I begin my ascent, leaving behind
The worries and obligations that try to bind
Me to reality and the daily grind
That is life.

Flying high upon the haze
Engulfed in the shining rays
I begin to awake from my daze
And start my decent.

Crash landing back to earth
Where I continue straining with all my worth
To leave behind the trappings of birth
I begin to realize…

My feet never left the ground.

I like the Icarus connection, the re-telling of the fable; not so keen on the format, the actual rhyme scheme; but that's not really a complaint as such, I just felt very mechanical reading it....I wanted more of a 'glide'; pre-burn out.....it has a be-fitting; good climax..

This is a beautiful poem. You made it so real and gave it a life of it's own.

Damn....It is so wonderful to see the things I see, but described so beautifully. While I read, I felt the wind in my hair and sweet ambrosia within :-)

Again I imagine you having these thoughts in your every day life. It is what makes reading your poetry great. It is easy to imagine you holding it inside. All I have read here have this feeling of being real.

You paint a portrait that is complex and wonderful, still alive and believable. Earthbound in the words best meaning.

You work always refreshes me, you hint at things and take care with all moments...brilliant and light, with a tinge of frustration
