Lights peering shyly
behind limbs
winking and
flirting
snap, crackle
Heat
pours from under
mantle
where stockings
hang
one, two, three
only the third
is missing this year
Just like last

A time for magic
the world stands
Still
as we catch our breath
and see
those that were there
all year
and we can say
“There you are!”

The lights paint
the night
in vivid tones
dancing
and the music
warms the heart
while hot cocoa, friends,
and family
warm the soul

Until

Once upon a midnight

Nearly

It all becomes
Turbulent
mixed and
confused

The magic
Fades
and seems
so fake
the closeness
and love aren’t
as strong

The lights
aren’t as bright
the friends
and family
aren’t as near
and laughing
has turned to
tears

Hot cocoa
in hand
and fire
by the side
and still the
warmth
has turned
Cold.

The music is
tinny
but bring tears
pooling and
spilling
the time of year
seems so wrong
for the songs
that are sung

Is it truly
that time of
year?

And if so,
where has
the year
gone?

A more realistic view of christmas. It can also be the dreariest tyme of year, as it has been drawn magnifacantly in this peice. Very fitting to the name, and very good to see something new out of you. Stunning as always. +.T.P.U+

Took the spirit right out of christmas, this was beautiful - to take a word that doesn't even come close. I loved this..~

Excellent write. Sometimes it seems the most "joyful" time of year can often be the sadest.
